Bonnie Lou Haslouer

Bonnie Lou Haslouer Bonnie Lou (McDonald) Haslouer passed away the evening of May 29, 2019 at the age of 94 years. She was born in Kansas City, Missouri on November 17th, 1924, the daughter of James Henry McDonald and Mildred Elizabeth (Meier) McDonald. At the age of ten the family moved to Flemington, Missouri where she graduated at the top of her class at the age of 16 and from Halstead School of Nursing in 1945. She met her husband Ralph Haslouer who was stationed in the Navy nearby in Hutchinson and they were married on February 12, 1945. Most of their married life was spent farming south of Abilene near Navarre, Kansas.
Bonnie is survived by nine children: Louise Bevilacqua (Mike), Denver, Colorado, Jeanne Rziha (Gerald) Tampa, Kansas, Janey Hummel, Haysville, Kansas, Chuck Haslouer (Ellen), Hope, Kansas, Susan Denney (Ron) Independence, Kansas, Mary Monaco, North Beach, Maryland, Carol Whitehair (Kirk), Abilene, Kansas, Bill Haslouer, (Linda) Hope, Kansas and Patricia Martel, Milford, Nebraska. Thirty-three grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and brother Charlie Carpenter (Dianne), Shawnee, Kansas.
She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph of 59 years, two grandchildren, and her sister Mary Whelan.
Bonnie worked part time as a Registered Nurse at Abilene Memorial Hospital while her children were growing up, later worked at Mid America Nursing Home, and for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment as a nursing home surveyor. When Ralph and Bonnie retired, they moved to Abilene, Kansas.
Bonnie was an active member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, Ladies of St. Andrews, Daughters of Isabella, Church Women United, Historical Society, Chatter Club, Red Hat Society, and lifetime Elks member. Her community service included volunteering at the clothing bank and delivering Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's activities, taking friends and neighbors to doctor's appointments, and would chauffeur anyone who asked.
A Parish Rosary will be recited 6 pm Sunday, June 2nd, at Danner Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 7:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will 10:30 am Monday June 3rd at St Andrew's Catholic Church. Internment will follow at Mount St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be made to St. Andrew's Catholic School. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
