John F. Morton Sr.

John F. Morton Sr. John F. Morton Sr., 89, passed away Friday, December 14th, in Abilene. He was born November 22, 1929 in Abilene, the son of Ralph and Georgia (Ryan) Morton. Growing up in Abilene, John attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1947. He was an Army Veteran having served in Korea. In 1950, John married Maurine Payton. She preceded him in death in 2002. He owned and operated Morton Transfer and Storage for many years. John enjoyed gardening, camping and his dogs. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, John F. Morton III and a brother, Gene Morton. John is survived by three sons; John Jr. (Sheila) Morton of Abilene, Mike (April) Morton of Abilene, Steve (Karen) Morton of Abilene; two brothers, Ralph (Linda) Morton of Abilene, Dan Morton of Abilene; a sister, Corine Morton of Lakeland, Florida; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held10:00 AM Thursday, December20th, at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Fr. Don Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 5:30 PM Wednesday, December 19th with the Parish Rosary following at 6:30 PM at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home PO Box 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
