Jill Royer Jill Royer
95, passed away Monday, February 12th, in her beloved Abilene. She was born September 27, 1922 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Col. Clarence Ronald and Birdie (Orme) Peck.
Jill graduated from Kansas University with honors in 1945 and began her professional career as a chemist with Eastman-Kodak in New York City.
On August 31, 1946, she was united in marriage with Ensign Robert H. Royer in Arlington, Virginia. In 1950 they relocated to his home town, Abilene, Kansas.
An avid golfer, Jill organized the Kansas Women's Golf Association and was involved as a golf rules official on the local, state and international level.
As her five children attained adulthood and began their college experiences, Jill chose to start a new career. Her friend, Pat Green, encouraged her to become the first female salesperson for Green Ford Sales. It was a very successful endeavor that she excelled at for many years. Jill finished her working career in property management at the Sunflower Building in Abilene, Kansas.
Jill was preceded in death by: her parents; husband, Bob; son, Dr. Charles Royer; brother, Col. John C. Peck and sister, Bobbe Faulders.
She is survived by: three sons, Robert "Hank" (Jo) Royer of Abilene; Richard (Stephanie) Royer of Olathe; Michael (Marla) Royer of Tulsa, Oklahoma; daughter, Shannon (Bill) McTaggart of Lawrence; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Jill had chosen cremation. A memorial service to celebrate her life and going home to be with the Lord will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, February 17th, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Pastor John Collins officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Abilene First United Methodist Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410 until day of service.
