Laurine S. Atkinson

Laurine S. Atkinson Laurine S. Atkinson, 93, passed away Saturday, December 16th, in Abilene. She was born November 9, 1924 in Abilene, the daughter of James A. and Loretta M. (Viola) Scriven. Growing up in Abilene, Laurine attended local schools, graduated from Abilene High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College. On June 21, 1945 she was married to Dwight C. Atkinson. The early years of their married life was spent following Dwight's career in road construction until settling in Abilene in 1967. She had been active in foster care, Girl Scouts, the Methodist Church and civic activities. Dwight preceded her in death, February 1, 1994. Laurine enjoyed reading and playing bridge. She was also preceded in death by: parents; daughter, Lourie Atkinson; great-grandaughter, Harmony Hardesty; sister, Irene Pettijohn and brother, James Scriven.
Laurine is survived by: two daughters, Janet Miller of Abilene and Ruth Vigneau of Napa, California; son, Craig Atkinson of Garden City; brother, Bill Scriven of Marion; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Friday, December 22nd, at the Danner Funeral Home with Craig Atkinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Thursday, December 21st, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Abilene Public Library.
