Juanita D. (Nita) Cash

Juanita D. (Nita) Cash Juanita D. (Nita) Cash was born January 11, 1918 in Guymon, Oklahoma to parents George L. Gribble and Anna Christina Meyer Gribble. The family, including older brother, Arnold and older sister, Pauline Ann moved to Ulysses, Kansas shortly after she was born and lived there for 12 years. The Gribbles, now including the youngest, Marshall, moved from western Kansas to Shelbina, Missouri where Juanita graduated from high school in 1936. She attended beauty school in Hannibal, Missouri. At age 18, Juanita bought the Mexico Beauty Shop in Mexico, Missouri, which she owned and operated for 15 years. During that time she met her future husband of 60 years, Bill J. Cash. They were married in Brunswick, Missouri in 1942. They had their three children while in Mexico, then, in 1955 the family moved to Abilene, Kansas. Juanita started her own beauty salon in their home in 1960. They moved to Enterprise in 1970, where she operated her beauty shop until 2006, when she retired at the age of 88. After Bill’s passing in 2002, she divided her time between Enterprise and her sister Pauline Brown’s home in Lawrence, Kansas, where she enjoyed meeting new friends and going to band concerts. She and Pauline lived together in Lawrence until Pauline’s passing in 2008. Nita later returned to Enterprise to live, first with her son Dale and his wife Sherry (Mumford), then at Enterprise Estates Nursing Home, where she was lovingly cared for until her death on November 25, 2017, just forty-seven days shy of her 100th birthday. Nita enjoyed good health until shortly before her death. In her later years, she enjoyed reading, sometimes aloud to her friends at the ‘home’, visits and calls with her family, and making baby quilts with Alice for her great grand children.
Survivors include one daughter, Alice (Mills), of Hutchinson, Kansas; two sons, James Dale, Enterprise, Kansas, and K. Frank, of San Francisco, California; five grand children and seven great grand children.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 26th, at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, south of Enterprise, with Rev. Jack Craig officiating.
The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to The American Macular Degeneration Foundation, National Audubon Society or the Abilene Public Library. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POPB 758 Abilene, Kansas.
