Frances L. "Corky" Hake
Frances L. "Corky" Hake, 85, formerly of Abilene, passed away Sunday, December 4th, in Manhattan aftre a brief illness. She was born March 24, 1931 in Salina, the daughter of Charles V. "Vic" and Lola I. (Richter) Gleason. Growing up in Salina, Corky attended local schools and graduated from Salina High School with the class of 1949. On August 22, 1948, she was married to Joe Hake. Most of their married life was spent in Abilene. Corky had been employed by the Salina Journal for eleven years and the Reflector-Chronicle for four years as a reporter. She had been a Past Worthy Matron in Eastern Star and very active with the Retired Teachers. Corky enjoyed painting landscapes and rustic scenes. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Dallas Gleason.
Corky is survived by: daughter, Viki (JD) Horan of Manhattan; son, Conrad (Carol) Hake of Hayward, California; five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
The family has chosen cremation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Good Shepherd Hospice House. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
