James E. "Pappy" Lake
James E. "Pappy" Lake, 83, passed away Saturday, November 19th, in Abilene. He was born August 11, 1933 in Manchester, the son of Clifford and Beulah (Coup) Lake. Growing up in the area, Jim attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School with the class of 1952. He was an Army Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. On November 12, 1954 Jim married Vivian Stammeyer. All of their married life was spent in Dickinson County. He had been employed by Civil Service at Ft. Riley in communications until retiring in 1976. Jim enjoyed sports and hunting, He was preceded in death by: his parents; grandson, Jeremy Lake; sister Zana Anderson and two brothers, Clifford L. and William H. Lake.
Jim is survived by: wife, Vivian Lake; son, James R. (Kim) Lake; daughter, Kimberly Lake all of Abilene; a sister Carol Cameron of Salina; four grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 PM Wednesday, November 23rd, at the Grace United Church of Christ with Rev. Phyllis Garrett and Pastor Pansy Beaudoin officiating. Interment will follow in the Prairie Mound Cemetery east of Solomon. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Tuesday, November 22nd, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his name be made to the Grace United Church of Christ, the Abilene Senior Center or the Dickinson County Hospice.
