Cindy K. Atkinson-Gillespie
Cindy K. Atkinson-Gillespie, 59, passed away Monday, October 24th, in Abilene. She was born February 15, 1957 in Abilene, the daughter of Allen L. "Lee" and Joan P. (Reiff) Atkinson. Growing up in Abilene, Cindy attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1975. She moved to Denver in 1979 and managed a collection agency before returning to Abilene in 1996. Cindy had been employed by Bankes Drug Store, Bill's Texaco and Kolling Pharmacy in Abilene. On April 15, 1998, she was married to Bill Gillespie. All of their married life has been spent in Abilene. Cindy enjoyed gardening, animals, camping and puzzles. She was preceded in death by her father in 2001 and a brother, C.J. Atkinson in 1972. Cindy had been a Past Honor Queen in Job's Daughters.
She is survived by; husband Bill Gillespie of Abilene; mother Joan Atkinson of Chapman; step-daughter, Lori (Brad) Wilson of Tonganoxie; step-son, Rob (Rhonda) Gillespie of Lawrence; four grandchildren; sister, Sue Zeller and two brothers, Rod (Connie) Atkinson and Mark Atkinson all three of Abilene.
The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, October 29th, at the United Brethren Church, southeast 2nd and Kuney, with Rev. Craig Atkinson officiating. Private family Inurnment will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Friday, October 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Cindy Gillespie Memorial Fund, to be designated at a later date. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
