Dorothy V. "Dot" Stroda
Dorothy V. “Dot” Stroda, 92, passed away Sunday, October 23rd, in Abilene. She was born January 2, 1924 near Elmo, the daughter of John and Marguerite (Whitaker) Baier. Growing up in the area, Dot attended local schools and graduate from Abilene High School with the class of 1942. On September 5, 1945, she was married to William “Bill” Stroda. They were married for fifty five years living and farming south of Abilene on the family farm. He preceded her in death February 25, 2000.
She had been employed by Duckwall Alco, the ASCS office, Shockey & Landis, Hoffman's packing plant and Brown Memorial Home throughout the years. Dot loved to cook, bake and spend time with her grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rosemary McDonald and two brothers, David and Paul Baier. Dot was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church.
She is survived by: daughter, Kelly Marie Stroda; two sons, Kevin Charles (Bonnie) Stroda and Kent William Stroda all of Abilene; two sisters, Louise “Lolly” Bowers and Joan (Don) Jackson; 10 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The Family has chosen cremation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, October 29th, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Celebrant Fr. Mark Wesley and Concelebrant Fr. Abraham Panthalanickal officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Farmington Cemetery southeast of Abilene. The family will receive friends beginning at 5:30 PM with a 6:30 PM Parish Rosary Friday, October 28th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials in her name be made to the Farmington Cemetery. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
