Lowell A. Hettenbach
Lowell A. Hettenbach, 92, passed away Tuesday, September 20th, in Chapman Valley Manor. He was born September 9, 1924 near Woodbine, the son of Fredrick Harvey and Elizabeth Rebecca (Westrup) Hettenbach. Growing up in the area, Lowell attended local schools and graduated from Woodbine High School with the class of 1942. He was a World War II Army Veteran. On December 24, 1947, Lowell married Helen Irene Smith. All of their married life was spent in Dickinson County. He owned and operated Hettenbach Construction Company. Lowell enjoyed his grandchildren's athletic activities, Royals Baseball, playing cards and work.
Helen preceded him in death July 4, 2010. Lowell was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church and a fifty year member of the Kansas Land Improvement Contractors' Association. He was also preceded in death by: his parents; a sister, Gladys Peck and two brothers, Warren and Dale Hettenbach.
Lowell is survived by: three daughters, Susan (John) Kummer of Chapman, Mary (Robert) Taylor of Ellsworth and Karen Chaffain of Topeka ; two sons, Paul ( Joann) Hettenbach and Bruce (Judy) Hettenbach of Abilene; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, September 24th, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Collins officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery south of Enterprise. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Friday at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Abilene Senior Center or the Abilene First United Methodist Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
