77, passed away Sunday, September 11th, in Abilene. He was born August 28, 1939 in Frankfort, Kansas, the son of George and Dicie (Combs) Barrett. Growing up in the Manchester area, George attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1957. On September 20, 1960, he married Nellie Anguiano. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. George was employed by civil service at Fort Riley, retiring in 1995. He was then employed by Alco until retiring again in 2013. George enjoyed spending time with family, his grandchildren's activities, pets and traveling. He was preceded in death by: two sons, Gregory and Daniel; two sisters, Bobbie and Patty; and two brothers, Fred and J.D.
George is survived by: his wife, Nellie Barrett of Abilene; daughter, Angela ( Gary) Williams of Purcell, Oklahoma; three sons, Don (Katie) Barrett, Randy (Kristine) Barrett and Fred (DeDe) Barrett all of Abilene; four grandchildren; Quinn, Aaron, Brenna and Sophia Barrett and a sister, Bernice Simpson of Wichita.
The family has chosen cremation. A memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, September 16th, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Fr. Abraham Panthlanickal officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Thursday, September 15th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Abilene Baseball Club or the Tammy Walker Cancer Center. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
