Guadalupe "Lupe" Gil, 92, passed away Sunday, July 17th, in Abilene, Kansas. She was born January 15, 1924 in Manchester, the daughter of Jose and Maria (Pelajio) Garcia. Growing up in the area Lupe attended local schools. On April 8, 1943, she was married to Hilario Gil. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. Lupe had been employed by Vaccu Blast and was a caregiver. Hilario preceded her in death September 23, 1997. She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and Eagles. Lupe enjoyed spending time with family and friends, cooking and caring for them and playing bingo. She was also preceded in death by two daughters, Pamela and Virginia Gil; two sisters, Juana Acosta and Maria Anguiano and seven brothers, Galdino, a brother in infancy, Benito, Bonifacio, Jesus, Felipe and Thomas Garcia.
Lupe is survived by: four daughters; Esperanza Rufener of Abilene, Carolin Ward of Abilene, Rose Marie Becker of Abilene and Christina Copeland of Orlando, Florida, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 AM Thursday, July21st, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Fr. Abraham Panthlanickal officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 5:30 PM Wednesday, July 20th, with a parish rosary at 6:30 PM at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to Dickinson County Home Health. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas.
