84, passed away Monday July 20, 2015 at Memorial Hospital in Abilene, Kansas. The youngest of 16 children, Jean was born February 6, 1931 in Dillon the daughter of Adolph “Red” and Amanda (Sprecker) Root. Growing up in the Dillon, Enterprise and Abilene area she attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School.
On July 1, 1950 she married Jerry Hafner in Benton Arkansas. They lived in California, Louisiana and Texas before returning to the Abilene area to put down roots and raise their family.
Throughout her life Jean was always ready to help others. Her house and heart were always open to her family, friends and anyone in need. She loved to entertain and cater events, play friendly games of golf and tennis and travel with her friends. She was a leader for multiple Willowdale 4-H club projects, Girl Scout and Brownie troops, Cub Scouts, Weeblo and Boy Scout Troops. She enjoyed being a member of the Neighborhood Club, was an avid reader and a longtime volunteer at the Abilene Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, July 23rd, at the Danner Funeral Home in Abilene with Pastor Lindsay Brummer officiating. Private family interment will follow.
