Ethyl M. Longenecker
93, passed away Friday, April 24, in Abilene. She was born June 21, 1921 in Abilene, the daughter of Cliffton and Leona (Weckell) Mark. Growing up in Abilene, Ethyl attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1939. On January 19, 1941, she was married to Frank Longenecker. They lived south of Abilene for a short time, moved north of Talmage to farm and then to Abilene in 1958. She had been employed by Nita’s Gifts and State Farm Insurance. Frank preceded her in death May 30, 2007. Ethyl enjoyed spending time with her family, doing volunteer community, school and church work and in later years she and Frank enjoyed traveling. She had a good sense of humor, was caring, compassionate and made great pies and cookies. She will be missed by family as a great role model and by lifelong friends. Ethyl was a member of the Talmage Methodist Church, teaching Sunday School for several years, later attending the Abilene First United Methodist Church. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl Mark and step-father Omri Ayers.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, April 27th, at the Danner Funeral Home with Rev. Lindsey Brummer officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday, April 26th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name to be made to the Ethyl Longenecker Memorial Fund, to be designated at a later date.
