Ivan J. “Jack” Smith
95, passed away Sunday, April 12th, in Abilene. He was born February 25,1920 in Vine Creek, Kansas, the son of William A. “Art” and Harriet L. (Turner) Smith. Growing up in Vine Creek, Jack attended local schools and graduated from Longford High School. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Pacific Theater. On October 27, 1945, Jack married Gladys H. Drake. Most all of their married life was spent in Abilene. He had been employed by the Michigan Wisconsin Pipeline Company as a supervisor, retiring in 1982. In 1992, they moved to Topeka. She preceded him in death April 13, 2006. Jack enjoyed spending time with family, loved working at anything to keep busy and was a friend to all. He was a member of the Topeka Town and Country Christian Church. Jack was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Susan Smith in infancy; a sister, Reva Reed and five brothers, Glen, Earl, Jay, Albert, and Lewis Smith.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 17th, at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Kohler officiating. Interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The family will receive friends 10:00 AM Friday until service time. The family suggests memorial contributions in his name be made to the Stormont-Vail Foundation Careline.
