Ursula V. “Babe” VanDeCreek,
97, passed away Saturday, February 21st, in Abilene. She was born June 4, 1917 in the Farmington Community south of Abilene, the daughter of William and Mary (Hytrek) Stroda. Growing up in the area and attending Farmington grade school and graduated from Abilene High School. On November 14, 1942, she was married to Henry VanDeCreek. All of their married life was spent farming in the Farmington Community. He preceded her in death June 11, 2007. Babe enjoyed gardening, cooking and all the activities associated with raising four sons. She was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church and belonged to the St. Andrews Alter Society with many years assisting with funeral luncheons. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, William and Leon Stroda, a sister Cordelia Hobson and a daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann Van De Creek.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, February 25th, at the St. Andrews Catholic Church with Celebrant Fr. Henry Baxa and Concelebrant Fr. Mark Wesley officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. St. Joseph Cemetery. A Parish Rosary will be recited 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 24th, at the Danner Funeral Home with family visitation following until 6:30 PM. The family suggests memorial contributions in her name be made to the Abilene Area Food and Clothing Center, Dickinson County Historical Society or Hospice of Dickinson County. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
