James M. Rice,
56. James Milton Rice was born November 22, 1958 in Hays, Kansas to James M. and Harriett Gugler Rice and died February 6, 2015 in Tempe, Arizona. In Hays he attended and graduated from Wilson Elementary School and Hays Junior High School. He attended Hays High School, later transferring to Tempe High School where he graduated in 1976. He attended Mesa Community College then went to Arizona State University graduating magna cum laude in 1989, earning a Bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in chemistry.
Jim married Sherry 1989 in 1990 and they had a son Andrew James Rice. Later Andy fathered Jim’s grandson Logan Rice in 2014. All survive him as do his older sisters, Jane Rhys and Anne Schutte.
Jim worked for Schreiber Foods, Inc. as a chemist for over 17 years
Jim Rice personified a definition given in an 1800 Encyclopædia Britannica, “being a gentleman means treating others, … in a respectful manner and not taking advantage or pushing others into doing things he chooses not to do.” Jim Rice was a true gentle man, very kind, and a good father to his son and a good brother to his sisters.
The family has chosen cremation. Memorial graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday, February 24th, at the Prairie Mound Cemetery in Solomon with
