Velma B. Bennett,
93, passed away Monday, February 16th, at her home in Abilene surrounded by her children. She and her twin sister, Thelma, were born March 10, 1921 at Friend, Kansas, the daughter of Lawrence and Martha (Cheney) Neaderhiser. Most of her childhood was spent in the Manchester area where her father farmed and owned a blacksmith shop. As a teenager, she accepted the Lord as her Savior in a tent meeting there. Velma attended local schools and graduated from Chapman High School. She had taught school at Stone country school until she was married to Lincoln Bennett May 18, 1941. They moved to Abilene in 1945 to spend the rest of their lives. He preceded her in death April 4, 2008 after nearly 67 years of marriage. Velma was employed by Sears and Roebuck for 21 ½ years, retiring in 1976. She was a charter member of the Willing Workers Sunday School Class and taught Sunday School at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church for many years. Velma enjoyed her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, was an accomplished seamstress, an avid homemaker and gardener. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Rachel (Cover) Webb; an infant sister, Hazel; sister Ava Ferguson and twin sister Thelma Bowyer.

She will be greatly missed by her five grandsons, 17 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren and many cherished friends and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, February 21st, at the Danner Funeral Home with Pastors William Cover and Carson Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Abilene Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends 5:30 - 6:30 PM Friday, February 20th, at the Danner Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial contributions in her memory be made to the Hospice of Dickinson County or the Abilene Bible Baptist Church.
