Donald (Donnie) Grebin
66, passed away on July 30th, 2014 in Abilene surrounded by his loving family. Donnie was born on October 12th, 1947 in Mitchell, S.D. Shortly after, his family relocated to Abilene where he attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School in 1966. Immediately after graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He completed six years of service and was Honorably Discharged. Upon returning, he married Linda Davis. They later divorced.
For several years, he worked for Precision Engineering as a machinist and then for Walker Stone as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic where he retired. Donnie really enjoyed being outdoors with friends and family and spent many weekends camping at Brown’s Park. Later, he actively became involved in reuniting with Vietnam Veterans attending many of the memorial reunions. His dogs played a very important part in his life for the last several years. He enjoyed riding around in his truck, stopping at local businesses to visit his friends.
Donnie is survived by his daughter Sara Alvarez and husband Kevin of Abilene. One sister, Barbara Kirchner and husband Tom of Clay Center. Four grandchildren Brenden, Addie, Grace and Devin Alvarez of Abilene, six nieces and nephews and his newly rescued four legged companion Frosty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fern and Gerald Parks. One brother, Ronald (Ronnie) Grebin and Max, his longtime buddy, his dog.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 4th at Danner Funeral Home with Rev. Jason Kohler officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 3rd at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Donald Grebin Memorial Fund to be designated at a later date. They may be left at or mailed in care of Danner Funeral Home P.O.
