Charles Asher Coleman
Charles Asher Coleman, 95, passed away Thursday, April 25th, in Abilene. He was born December 3, 1917 in Pueblo, Colorado, the son of Charles and Martha (Mullin) Coleman. In 1920, the family moved to Oakley and then to Abilene in 1929. Growing up, he attended local schools and graduated from Abilene High School with the class of 1936. He had been employed as the Junior High School custodian and then by power plant south of Abilene. In 1942, Asher enlisted in the army serving in the European theater as a Scout Section Sergeant in the 13th Armor Division, returning to Abilene in 1945. After the war, he returned to school and graduated from Kansas State Teachers’ College of Emporia in 1951 with a degree in Industrial Arts. After graduating, he married Isabelle Tart. The couple followed his 28 year teaching career in Florence, Augusta and Chapman Kansas followed by 20 years in Fountain Colorado. Asher moved back to Abilene after she preceded him in death in 1987. On August 18, 1987, he married Dorothy R. Sims. All of their married life was spent in Abilene. Dorothy preceded him in death in 2009. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lois Muller. Asher was a member of the Abilene First United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion and Kiwanis.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, April 30th, at the Abilene First United Methodist Church with Annie Ricker officiating, interment will follow in the Abilene Cemetery. The casket will not be open at the church. The family suggests memorials in his name be made to the Abilene First United Methodist Church. They may be left at the church the day of the service or left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
